Do you think contemporary artists would have been good enough to stand by the level of the artists of the 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Festival? If so, what would have been your line up for the cancelled 50th anniversary commemoration?

As you may know there were plans to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the one and only Woodstock Music and Art Festival this August 2019, but these plans failed. Finance is to be blame along with other controversies such as permit issues and site readiness. But, the real reason may have been expressed by its co-founder Michael Lang when he said, “We don’t believe the production of the festival can be executed as an event worthy of the Woodstock Brand name”. The following was the lineup already confirmed and schedule for the commemoration: Jay-Z, Dead & Company, The Killers, Miley Cyrus, Imagine Dragons, Robert Plant and The Sensational Space Shifters, the Black Keys and Chance the Rapper, among others.

Cancelled or not, we can continue dreaming and reminiscing about the most legendary music festival in the history of music, the 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Festival. More than 600 acres at the dairy farm of Max Yasgur in the town of Bethel in New York were filled with over 400,000 people and the list of the performances are now-legendary musicians like Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Greatful Dead, Joe Cocker, Crosby, Still, Nash and Young, and Ten Years After… just to mention a few.

It was four days of peace, love, music…and the issues are not any different from the current ones, climate changes, women rights, and human rights!
